Per Request: Homemade Toothpaste & Mouthwash Recipe
I thought I had this recipe here, but must have been on my old blog, so here goes again.
1.) 1 cup of organic coconut oil ( Swanson.com –cheapest) OR, Whole Foods)
2.) 1/2 cup of baking soda (non alum)
3.) Several packs of Stevia in the raw for sweetener(Food Lion OR, Walmart)
4.) Several drops of Peppermint oil-extract if you can’t find oil(They have both at Walmart)You could also use pure vanilla extract if you don’t like peppermint.
5.)A pinch of sea salt(Preservative)
6.) 2 capfuls of sunflower oil(Optional)
Mix together in a bowl till you have a nice consistency. In the warmer months the coconut oil will soften, and the toothpaste will be more of a paste. In the colder months it will be a more of a firmer consistency. Just play around with it and make it your own. If you want it sweeter, add more stevia, more flavorful, add more mint.
I store ours in a plastic freezer canning jar, as shown below:
I have a friend who uses a clean empty soap dispenser for the kids toothpaste.
1 liter of Distilled water
2 capfuls of peroxide
15 drops of Tea-tree Oil
15 drops of Peppermint Oil
This is much better then Listerine because there is no aspartame, saccharin or artificial junk in it. And for those that don’t know, it use to be marketed as a floor cleaner! Nothing I’d particularly want to put in my mouth!
**You can also make homemade dental floss, but it is rather time consuming. Your coating a fine string with beeswax that has been soaked in mint oil. Your keeping all your old floss containers and prying them open, and rewinding the new healthy dental floss in them.
