We have decided to garden on a larger scale this year. Five raised beds and two plots.
The fruit trees are in full swing, and the bees are doing good. Praise God!
We have an old greenhouse area that we are going to fence up for chickens again. The chicks will be here next week. I’m not too happy to hassle with chickens again, and I’m sure our neighbors won’t be either…but we will see how it goes.
Cooking has increased, if that is even possible. Take these gluten free pancakes for example. Only two ingredients, and they are my morning go too now.
Well, that was this past week in pictures. I’m sTill taking my daily walks with the kids. We also started this Netflix series called, Greenhouse Academy.
Shopping: I still have not been able to locate any TP, and we are getting down there. I’m told that if you are at Aldis or Sams club right when they open, you can score some. But that would require me going to bed before 2am and waking at dawn. So I’ll probably procrastinate until we are down to the last roll.
I have been watching a lot of vintage YouTube videos, which has inspired me to dig out some of the vintage products that I have in my collection.
I’m fascinated that there are still a group of vintage beauty products that are still as popular as they were, back in the days..
These are some of the items I still enjoy.
•Nivea Skin cream
This was first introduced back in 1911.
It was the first oil to water skin cream on the market.
I read that Marilyn Monroe used it daily to keep her skin soft and glowy.
The smell is what has always captivated me.
I wish they made a candle that smelled like it. People either love or hate it.
I adore it and will walk into the bathroom to open it for a whiff or two sometimes.
I was first introduced to Nivea cream in the forth grade.
My mom used it on her legs and it would smell up the bathroom.
The smell is a strong floral.
It leaves a rich dewy finish to your skin.
Great for your legs and feet!
Slather your feet with it before bed and wake up with very happy feet.
Back in the forth grade I use to put it on my hands before walking to school in the winter time.
The formula is said to be different
From country to country, which I find interesting.
They also make a body wash, which I’m currently using, and a deodorant which I have tried too, but it can only be bought online for some reason.
•Ponds Cold Cream
This supposedly dates back to 1904. I feel as though their advertising makes a woman think that if she starts using Ponds, then a man will purpose to her. 😅
I remember one of my stepmoms having this in her bathroom when I’d come to visit.
It use to be sold in a milk glass jar though, not plastic. I think the cap was blue, too. I’m considering buying an original old milk white container and reposting mine.
Again with the strong floral smell. It smells so good!
Definitely a vintage type of smell, which I happen to love.
You use it to take off your heavier eye makeup. And some ladies used it as a thick night time moisturizer before bed.
I read that Jackie Kennedy used ponds cold cream to keep her outdoorsy skin fresh and dewy.
•Jergens Face Cream
This was said to have launched in the 1950’s
It’s a light pink color with an extremely potent floral smell. Almost too potent for me. Lol
It’s a classic though.
You can use it to moisturize the skin, take off your heavier foundations, and some women use it as a face primer.
It’s also very cheap!
The price sits at under $4.
I do love that you can still pick it up at any Walmart, and the label has remained a bit old fashion. The original one came in a stunning, vase-like, milk glass jar.
•Sun In Hair Lightener
I was in Jr. High.
Specifically, it was after gym class and the popular girl was using it in her hair and had called me over to spray the back of her head.
I asked her what it was.
She told me that it just came out at K-mart, and was only $2.19. She said it would help my hair too. Help? I thought to myself.. lol
She then went on to tell me that it lightens hair and makes it very blond without bleaching it.
That same day while walking home from school I stopped at the drug store (Rite-Aid) and bought myself some.
I only used it on a small braid that I wore in my hair though.
I loved the idea of spraying and using a hair dryer to achieve the desired color.
Later that year I did my whole head! And my two best friends at the time did their. We thought we were so chic, all having the exact same hair color.
I have some now, that I bought several years ago for the memory.
The price point is still under $5.
•Suave Visible Glow
I do not think this particular one is vintage, but I’m no stranger to self tanners so wanted to include.
Again, I was first introduced to them as a teen. I was in sixth grade when one of best friends showed up to school with a tan.
It was winter time in Connecticut, so I was very shocked when she walked over to my locker with tanned skin. She was pale white, the previous day.
Self tanners have come a long way since those 80’s coppertone days.
Orange-ish skin is a thing of the past.
Nowadays, self tanners have olive undertones which gives a more realistic bronze suntan. Currently I’m Using Suave though. It gives you a very light glow, and since I’m
not leaving the house, but I still enjoy primping, it has been my go too, because why not?!
•Noxzema
First introduced in 1914
Another classic! The smell is strong, and almost minty!
It reminds me of all the summer sunburns that I use to get when laying out in the sun slathered with baby oil. We have all done that before, I’m sure. Awe.. the smell of baby oil.
Noxzema was the first cream I ever used on my face to clean it. I think my brother was using it at the time and I borrowed it from him.
It use to come in a glass jar and like everything else, it is now plastic. It’s used to treat sunburns and wash your face.
•Loreal Elnett Satin Hair Spray
This one came out in the 1960’s. Way before I was born, but I started using it in the 80’s, if Aqua Net was sold out.
I remember the price being about $3 a can.
Now it’s $14.99 a can.
The smell is definitely strong and vintage-like.
I only use hairspray a few times a year, and I have had the same can for about six years now.
•Coty Air Spun Face Powder
This has been around since 1934.
I have only been through two others in my life. It lasts forever!
It’s one of the very few face powders that come with a giant puff. There is something nice about a large powder puff.
That said,
I have never understood why ladies were known for excusing themselves after supper to go powder their noses. That just clogs the pores on the nose. I don’t even like to foundation my nose.
Coty face powder has a strong smell. It also has talc as the first ingredient so it’s not something you want to use on the daily.
I probably won’t repurchase it after I use my current up, as I have several other, more healthier brands of face powder. I use it to set my other make-up.
As we age, powder is not really our best friend anymore.
In high school I used Covergirl Clean compact powder in the color Bisque. I do recall going through one Covergirl compact each month. They were $2.29ea. I think they are about $6 now.
•Revlon Colorstay Lipstick in the color #4 Nude
I was a teenager when Revlon launched its first ever long wearing lipstick.
I went crazy over this particular shade though.
They have been discounted for probably twenty years.
They have been known to revamp the formula time and time again.
Alas’ I buy one off eBay every few years.
And yes! Even though using expired makeup seems to be such a taboo, I really just don’t care. If it looks and smells good, I’m Using it!
I use to pay $4 for it. Nowadays, I pay $15-$20 per tube on eBay. Currently I have #3 and #4 shown above.

Things I have not liked since being self quarantined.
I decided to document a few things that I have not liked about being at home 24/7.
I’m for the most part, a Polly Anna, but I wanted to think about some things that I have not been happy about. After-all, I’m human.
Despite my exercising daily for the past three weeks without skipping a day, I’ve managed to gain weight.
Sure, I’ve been cooking and eating more, but it’s not fast food or fried, and I thought since I’m working out, things would balance.
I hopped on the scale this morning, and hopped right back off!

Before all of this started, exercise was not part of my daily routine anymore. Mainly, because shopping was.
And when I say I shopped, I mean standing in line for the store to open at 9am and not leaving until 3pm.
Three days a week! 😳
That never seemed like exercise to me, but I guess it was.
Another thing that has been bothering me is having the internet constantly down. Even though I have data, it’s still pretty bad and doesn’t allow me to work well.
And lastly, the house.. there is just no use keeping in clean.
I’d like to see a magazine layout of everyone’s “lived in” houses as of lately. That would be a beautiful, realistic sight. 😏
After you clean your hands, trim, and push back your cuticles, you then rough up the nail bed to get rid of the shine (slightly) Then spritz rubbing alcohol on the nail bed. Lastly, you match up a tip for each nail. And wa’la!
I suppose some ladies like a nice talon claw, and leave their nails at this length, but I like a quarter of this length. Lol
My kit came with six colors. I was drawn to this bright turquoise because it reminded me of the ocean, and a particular crayola crayon that was always my favorite as a kid. 🙂
I went to bed last night irritated.
I started praying and then laid still to meditate for a bit.
I then instantly realized that I was irritated because I left the house for four hours.
We went out for a drive, then out to eat, and then another drive.
I was off of the routine that I’ve been so happily sticking with for the past month.
I’ve never considered myself as a routine type of person, as I get bored so easily, yet, I thrive best when I’m on a routine.
Not just any routine either, but one that involves many things.
I also have been really enjoying my hobbies since being at home. Not to mention, cooking.
I did not cook yesterday, or sew.
I worked and took my evening walk, and the remainder of the day we were in the car out.
Today on the other hand was different. I worked, took my walk, sewed, did some organizing, and watched a movie with the kids and primped a bit.
I’m genuinely happy!
We all ventured out as a family today for Palm Sunday.
The kids were hankering for Chipotle, so with gloves and masks in tote, we headed to the city. Thirty-five minute Drive. not too bad!
Another week has gone by. I cooked today and cleaned. I decided that For this weekends larger meal, to make Beef Stew over rice and Banana Cream pudding for dessert. (My sons favorite)
I also shared my online closets. No sales for the past three days. *sigh*
I binge watched Messiah on Netflix in the past two days. Was not very fond of the ending with the church scene. I also started a series called YOU, on Netflix. Psychological Triller.
I took my evening walk, then showered and did another Bella Flash laser treatment. I’m still stuck on number four. Already seeing major results. I am on week ten.
Oh! And I went to the store for fruit, eggs and milk. And of course, I took more pictures. The truck was obviously there when I was, because boxes upon boxes were throughout the store. Meats were in more abundance. And there are now signs up that tell you to keep six feet apart. There was also yellow tape in the cashier lines to tell customers where to stand. Pics below!
Fluffy coffee is all the rage right now. You can even beat it with a hand held egg beater for thirty minutes to achieve a real cool whippy style coffee. It’s not like you don’t have the time right now… 🙃 It can be served hot or cold.
You take two tablespoons of instant coffee (I used Folgers because that all I had on hand) You then throw two Tablespoons of sugar (I used Sugar in the Raw) Lastly, two Tablespoons of water. Hot or cold. Your choice. Then you whip it all up until you have a fun consistency. Dollop a bit of whip cream on top and enjoy!
There are tons of recipes on Pinterest. I’m going to try making it with Espresso tomorrow because I really hate the taste of instant coffee. Lol
