School lunches and Fitness

I’ve been trying to recall what type of school lunches I had growing up. I don’t think they were the picture of health….Grilled Cheese and French Fries, Pizza, Hamburgers, chicken nuggets, Fried fish sandwiches,Hot dogs, along with the occasional Tuna Boat, which was my personal favorite.

I recall corn and carrots, but I think that is it as far as veggies went. I don’t recall salads at all. And we had chocolate milk and white milk as drink choices.

So not very healthy…However, there was only a couple overweight kids that I can recall. In fact, I can only think of two. And they were both boys who were called names and humiliated, for their extra pounds.

This has left me confused at why so many kids are overweight.
Is it because many schools  have cut gym classes?
Is it because they are not getting the exercise after school as we did? –Playing outside till dinner time?
Is it because there was an ‘actual dinner time’ where moms were home in time to cook real meals?

Or is it because we now have 10x the convenience choices of prepackaged foods, and even if kids have a babysitter, the baysitter is left with prepackaged foods to prepare for the kids?

Perhaps it is all of the above?

Today DH and I had a long drawn out talk about this.
I casually made the comment  to him,  that I actually like  Michelle Obama.
I like her mainly because she is so pro-active in her children’s lives, as well as the lives of other school age children.
I also like seeing all the media pictures of her Organic gardening and giving talks at  public schools about health and overall nutrition…I can not recall any other first ladies that have made so much of an impact on kids lives. :o/

DH laughed, then laughed some more.
He thinks it is all a hoax, and the media is just showing the  five minuets here and there of Michelle doing a few ‘good deeds’ –But not because she cares. More for brownie points!
Not that the women would ever touch a brownie! lol

DH feels that she is nothing but ‘A BRAND’

We agreed to disagree, and that was that.

I can not say 100% whether he is right or not..but I do like her.

DH also mentioned how Laura Bush did the same thing with her views on education.

But did she also make a real difference?

Losing Weight? & Eating!

I keep getting asked how I’ve been losing weight. I’ve lost over 50lbs in the past year, and would like to shed another 50lbs. I have lost 5lbs this past week too.

So what I’ve found works the best is……

Simply eating everything and anything that your heart desires!! Don’t worry about counting calories..watching your carbs, omitting fats, or staying away from junk food! Eat whatever, and whenever you want, in any amount of quanities you want!

BUTYou know there has to be a catch right??

ReadyDON’T SWALLOW!  That’s IT..enjoy the texture and taste of all your favorite foods…but remember to spit it all out discreetly in your napkin, or a small canning jar works well… after enjoying it..DO NOT SWALLOW!

How easy is that one simple rule to follow??  And there is an occasional exception or two..If your munching on an apple or pear..YOU GO FOR IT! Swallow after your done chewing! :o)~

Teach ur family, and you will all be healthy!!!

**Mom used Adobo in that soup, which is loaded with MSG, so the family really had no other option!….**

Are ya grossed out yet?  Well I know a certain lady from Kansas surely ought to be! :o)~lol

Am I doing this to lose weight?  Honestly, shame on whoever thought that I would! *G*

Nah, I would never be able to do this, but have heard of others who have..Yikes!

I  once had a doctor tell me if you chew food right down to a liquid state, then you will lose weight. I actually tried that one in the past, and failed miserably. Everything I do is fast, which includes eating I’m afraid. Two-three chomps, and down it goes!

That said, Now that the warmer months are here I’ll be eating a lot less cooked foods again.  What am I a slave to?  Mainly Pasta-which lures me in like nothing else! I did good today.  I made an enormous pot of homemade mac & cheese for the kids, and didn’t have even a bite.  Despite it (the melted cheese mainly) whispering sweet nothings in my ears!

The kids all had 2 servings, and there is some left for them for tomorrow… DH doesn’t do much American food and he’s not an pasta lover at all. Plenty more for the rest of us! *G*

So today I ate 3 organic tacos. I ❤ Tacos! But they have to be meatless, have to have a blue taco shell, and have to have lots of cheddar cheese on top! YUM! I think I can honestly walk around with a block of cheese, and eat it like an apple!

I buy blue organic taco shells, stuff them with organic refried pinto, OR black beans, top them with shredded cheddar cheese and heat them for 40 seconds. Then I add mung bean sprouts and boston lettace to them. They are fabulous!!  So while the kids were groaning about how extra cheesey, milky and buttery the mac and cheese turned out…I was telling them that they were missing out on some good ol’ fashion refried pinto beans, in blue taco shells!  Their Loss, right?  <:o)~

I had a Cliff Bar for breakfast. I love them so much, and you can buy a big box at Costcos for only $20.00 You get 24 in the box, which will take you almost through a whole month. They have wonderful ingrediants and are only 240 calories each. I tried to make them, but it ended up costing more. Great to have on hand. I also love the Luna bars but they are too expensive.

I  had a quart of water and a quart of carrot juice today. For dinner, it will most likely be homemade raw granola that my daughter just made.

I don’t buy red meat unless I am cooking for a bunch of people like I did last week.  Secretly, I love meatballs and make an awesome meatloaf, but try to pretend that I don’t.  I buy salmon burgers, then I melt swiss cheese on them. I have them as is, with no bread. They are super. I love fish, but hate having to pick through bones…I use to catch bass all the time as a kid, and had my fair share of bone picking, which kinda ruined it for me as an adult.  So I only buy filets. Flounder and Tilapia are also great!

I have one of  those mentioned above,  for dinner a once a week. I also buy lots of chicken, but decided that I am not going to cook it anymore because no body eats it, but that’s a whole other topic! As long as it’s not fried, I’ll eat chicken once a week. I use to only make homemade fried chicken. Paula Deene style, which is probably why no one eats chicken anymore.

We do not eat the SAD (standard american diet) diet anymore, and haven’t for some time. No three course meals here, which I could make healthy, but the fact is, no body eats like that.

My kids graze through out the day. They have either granola, hard boiled eggs, waffles, or fruit for breakfast. Lunch, they have either a sandwhich, rasin toast, yogurt and fruit, tacos(yes, they do actaully eat them, minis the mung beans.) OR, if I make a big pot of pasta, they will eat that. I also buy high fiber flour tortillas, and sometimes make homemade corn tortillas, and the kids eat them with melted cheese in the middle. Homemade burritos are also good!

Dinner, everyone eats differently. I have one Gluten-Free daughter..who cooks for herself. My oldest daughter eats very much like I do, so whatever I end up fixing for myself, she will eat. Salmon, mussels, eggs, quinoa, whole belly clams,chicken-apple sausages, stuffed baked potatos or meat-less burritos. I also made spinach fettucini last week. The pasta itself was green, and made from artichoke flour.

Yes, I still snack daily. I eat dehydrated bananas, dehydrated apricots, mango and plums. I eat mostly dehydrated fruits off-season, because I can’t find the whole fruits that don’t cost an arm and a leg until Spring and Summer hits. I am also crazy over avacodos!  Yes,they are high in fat, but it’s the good fat!  Sometimes I dice one up and mash it onto Organic Torilla chips for a night time snack.. I also love popcorn. I  buy the organic kind without MSG or hydronated oils in it. Of course when I’m at the movies, which is about twice a month–I do splurge and eat the discustingly processed, overly drenched in fake butter, loaded with bleached salt…. type of  movie popcorn….which of course is a heart attack waiting to happen! But I’m not dogmatic about anything, and always leave room to enjoy myself. :o)~

Another snack that probably no one else would consider a snack, other then me, are chopped cherry tomatoes with english cucumbers, shredded mozzerella cheese, sea salt and Grapeseed oil.  Just the other night I mentioned to DH, that I was feeling like some ice cream something awful!  About an hour later, I walked into the living room with a big bowl in my hand. It was dark, and DH assumed I had some ice cream stashed away in one of the freezers while walking into the room with a bowl in my hands..

But nope-It was the tomatos, cukes, cheese and oil.  Equally yummy I told him, as he gagged!

As far as sweets go…I love, love chocolate, but only a certain kind, ice cream-prefrably Ben & Jerrys New York Chuck. Sweet tarts and Smarties are a weakness, but I only indulge in those when parade season starts up..I don’t eat any chips what-so-ever, except the organic tortilla chips mentioned above.  Ironically, I’m a recovering Doritos & Cheese puff fan, but the mere smell of them makes me want to vomit now. Sometimes people will walk by me in the super market and I can tell that they were obviosuly eating them prior…  Monosodium glutamate, hydrolyzed yeast extract, and MSG…otherwise known as flavor enhancers, have a smell all their own! :oP

Your taste buds change when you give up unhealthy, over processed, fake food! You will go through a 2 week withdrawl period, and will have to keep on reading about how toxic junk food really is crippling you, just to get you to  the next level of your health. It is a mind over matter thing!

This is what I did!  I had little print outs of all the ingrediants that rob your body (Which is the Lords temple) of all its functions that it was created for!!  I started asking myself, how can I drink something that will bleach clothing, and not expect it to damage my insides?  Or drink something that has the ability to clean automobile motors..(Kool Aid & Soda)

How can I eat so many toxic chemicals that break down and deteriate the inside of my body, make me sick..and I know! Then I’ll have people pray for my health–as I continue to harm myself, while slowing killing off all my organs…until I die of a heart attack or obesity(diabetes), OR end up in the hospital for other reasons, which at no avail-will be brought on by my own doing. Not very smart when you think about it!

Sweetners: I use honey and stevia in the powder form and the liquid form.

I don’t use any condiments anymore. As far as eating out..I go out to breakfast several times a month, and I do the whole eggs, toast, and potatos thing.

We also go to Subway a couple times a month, and it’s really  just as bad as any fast food chain, speaking of sodiem and fat, that is. So unless you are going to carry a big kooler in your car packed with food, then there will be times that you go out, and it is fun going out!

Sometimes it’s hard to eat at other peoples houses. Regardless, I always eat whatever is being served, then just go to the bathroom to vomit afterwards…

I’m teasing of course!  lol…More times then not, it is something soooo good, something that I have not had in forever, and I want seconds and thirds! :o)~

On the flip side–

When I have dinner parties and folks want to bring something… Which is so polite and all, but really not necessary I assure them, but sometimes they insist, so…

Take a couple weeks ago for example. I invited a couple of ladies over, and one  of them wanted to bring drinks for all our kids..She knew that we don’t do soda, unless it’s from Whole Foods or homemade. (Yes, I do make homemade gingerale.)

There is Sweet Tea, but if it’s made with bleached sugar, it’s toxic  and all my kids end up with belly aches..So I thought the safe bet, without sounding to off the wall, would be..LEMONADE!   Then I was asked..Crystal Light, or Kool-Aid lemonade? I only had a second to think about it..Hmm, Crystal Light, which is loaded with Aspertame,(The Silent Killer) which is a phenylalanine…and there is actually a warning lable on the bottom of the container!! Along with, the other 11 deadly ingrediants!  OR, Kool-Aid (The Kiss of death) which is made with bleached sugar, maltodextrin, butylated hydroxyanisole, and yellow number 4….No lemons what so ever!!!  So what was the lesser of two evils, I thought to myself, obviously not fast enough, before…”OH, DO YOU SQUEEZE YOUR OWN LEMONS DEAR?”  I replied, sometimes, but store bought lemon juice is super easy to make lemonade with too?

There is going to be times like this..if you and your family are not use to eating healthy, then these things will sound absurd to you, but if you are use to eating a certain way, you WILL all have stomach aches come night time!  This was something that DH couldn’t get past, and in the end, won! :o(

DH still eats junk food and either stops on the way home some place, or I’ll make him a green smoothie or Keifer shake when he comes home. He does both, which keeps his body highly toxic, and in return he is always the first person to get sick.  He also gets Spanish food from his family and brings that home to eat.  As well as…Sandwiches, cereal, sausages or hotdogs..which are the organic ones that I buy though.

That covers what we all eat, and how I eat. I have not had any coffee yet today, but I know when DH comes home, he will want to go out for coffee, so of course I will have some then. I actually never started drinking coffee until I met DH. *G*

Regarding exercise: I work out 4x a week at my house. My oldest DD works out with me.

I alternate with the Leslie Sanome DVD’s. She has a 1,2,3,4 and 5 mile walk. We are still on the 3 mile walk, and can not seem to make it to the 4 mile yet. I’m hopeful though, someday. I also do a Belly Dancing workout with my other daughter who doesn’t like the Leslie ones. Only a few times a month though, because your extreamly sore for days after.

I also use 5lb brass dumbells, which I’ve had since I was fifteen years old. They are the only thing that has made it through all my travels, and moving around!

I am sure I’m forgetting stuff, but that is pretty much it. Any questions, just ask! :o)

Blackstrap Molasses

Blackstrap Molasses~ A cure all?

Blackstrap Molasses is a great source of iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, copper, and manganese. Many people have reversed their gray hair with it, or so they claim. This would most likely be due to the copper content, as copper deficiency can lead to premature gray hair, and we wouldn’t want that!  And really, how much copper are we consuming each day?

Regarding the copper content in it:

***Copper is an essential component of enzymes and plays a role in a wide range of physiological processes including iron utilization, elimination of free radicals, development of bone and connective tissue, and the production of the skin and hair pigment called melanin … Using two teaspoons of blackstrap molasses to sweeten your morning cereal/oatmeal, coffee or tea during the day will supply you with 14.0% of the daily recommended value for copper.***
Over on Earth Clinic, people have reported that they have cured all sorts of things by simply taking a daily dose of blackstrap molasses, such as cancer, fibroids, acne, arthritis knee pain, and everything in between.
I don’t really have anything wrong with me at the moment, other then having low iron, so can’t really comment on the other uses at this time. I just wanted to try the nonsynthetic route.

There is a difference between Blackstrap Molasses and Regular Molasses, keep that in mind. You will only find regular molasses at your grocery stores and Wal-mart. If you have some sort of local country store in your area, that is where you will most definetly locate the good stuff! They also sell it at Whole Foods and Health food stores.

If you’ve ever watched the movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, In one of  the scenes a machine is smashing what is suppose to be sugarcane… Willy Wonka then mentions that the juice is extracted through the machine and turned into molasses. The molasses looks light, but it was very dark on the edges towards the bottom. That is what is known as “blackstrap” molasses. Blackstrap molasses is like tar in texture in comparison to regular molasses because blackstrap molasses is the final result of sugar refining, which makes it extremely strong and concentrated.

In the Fall time you can usually go to local fairs and watch the process being done. We have done this several times before.
I started taking a daily tablespoon of Blackstrap Molasses two weeks ago for my low-iron. It is an acquired taste, no doupt about that!  I can handle it, but have also tried it in my coffee, which was actually very good. Some people place it in their oatmeal, or spread it on toast, etc. Personally, I’d love to be able to just eat a 1/2 dozen molasses cookies every day instead! Yum!

However it’s just best to take it by the spoonful as a medicine and be done with it. I  recall my grandmother taking it in a glass of water as a kid too.

Any really, instead of focusing on how gross it really is, (but it’s really NOT all that bad though)   Just say to yourself: I’m a beautiful, delightful & special person… and I’m drinking something totally off the chart disgusting, simply because I’m worth it!”  :o)~

If you keep saying this over and over again, drinking toilet water would even be tolerable, I would think? *G*
So I encourage you all to just go for it! It really is an energy booster, if nothing more!

Molasses Chicken
3-4lb chicken
2 capfuls of apple cider vinegar(distilled white will work too, if that is all you have.)
1 stick of butter
1/2 cup of molasses
pepper to taste

Place chicken in a crock pot, pour vinegar on top.(this tenderizes it.) Then pour melted butter over chicken, then drizzel the molasses over the butter to form a glaze. Lastly, season the top with lots of pepper. You could add salt, but real butter has so much salt in it anyways.Of course if you only buy the unsalted kind, then by all means-salt it up!
Set crock pot on high for about 3-4 hours. If you have to work, place it on low for 8 hours, just be sure you have about 3 cups of water on the bottom of the crockpot before placing the chicken in.
Variation: Sometimes I mix a cup of catsup with the Molasses to give the chicken a BBQ flavor.

IRON Rich Foods

Below is a list of iron rich foods.  I really don’t eat many of them, and apparently, only 1 mg of iron is absorbed for every 10 to 20 mg of iron ingested. I also learned that people who drink a lot of milk, or soy have low iron, as well as people who don’t eat alot of meat. I drink raw milk in my coffee every day.  However, I’m on day 3 right now without having any coffee what-so-ever, which is why I’m so cranky!  My doctor told me that I can have a casual cup of coffee here and there, but be sure that it’ss black. I tried, but I just can not get use to the watery texture of black coffee. This is not why I am trying to wean myself off  coffee though.  I was told that people that have an under active thyroid should not be drinking any coffee at all. And since this has also become a recent issue, I decided to see if I could quit cold turkey. I’m very cranky, and just looking over at my coffee pots lined up on the counter is making me very frustrated. The weekends here, and Starbucks and Brew Nerds will be calling my name shortly…

Getting back to iron rich foods, which is also known as, being Anemic. There are actually 400 different types of Anemia, who knew? The most common is having low iron. Looking over this list again…

I use to eat lots of walnuts, but found that they are very acidic, and I am trying to eat more alkaline foods, so gave them up a while back. I  eat spinach almost daily, but would need to eat an awful lot to get enough iron each day. I eat eggs, but only twice a month and have been thinking about giving them up. I  love raw clams and oysters, which are high in iron, but no one else does, so I only order them while out. I use to eat chick peas almost daily, but found out that they are not healthy for my blood type, so gave them up last year. I eat kidney beans a couple times a month in chili, but other then that, I guess I will have to stick with vitamins. *sigh* The only symptoms that I have regarding being anemic, are cold hands and feet most of the time and very pale skin and feeling tired, even after sleeping 8-10 hours. It is best to have iron with vitamin C, which makes it absorb the best. If you have it with fiber or dairy, it won’t absorb at all.

Top 10 Fiber Foods

Top 10 Fiber Foods

Most people do not get enough Fiber in their daily diet.. Recently my SIL was admitted in the hospital due to severe pains. She found out that she has an extreamly low Fiber count. There is a name for it, but it has escaped me at the moment.

We should aim for about 30 grams a day, more if you want to lose weight..Kids should aim for 14 grams. Most people only get around 7 grams, if that! For people who get colon cancer, they were not getting enough fiber, and since Colon cancer is even more popular nowadays with women then breast cancer. I think it is pretty important to make sure we get our daily intake. You want to keep your colon clean inside. Fiber will do just that. It is like a pressure washer for your colon. Sure, you can take those fiber pills, or the powdered stuff that you mix with water, but that stuff all has “other” UNhealthy ingrediants in it, besides the fiber. So, if at all possible, it is best to go straight to the God Given source. As fiber works its way through your digestive system, it grabs fats and carries them all the way through to the colon, where  fat & fiber cling together, then water is extracted, and it is all eliminated from the body in one clean sweep.
Here is a list of the top ten foods to include in your diet to be sure that you are getting what you need. Both Men, and women.

1. Beans!!! One cup of black beans,OR Garbanzo beans have 14 grams of fiber. Soy Beans have 24 grams of fiber PER cup! WOW! Pinto beans have 12 grams of fiber per cup, and Kidney beans have 8 grams of fiber per cup.1/2 cup lentils have 8 grams.

2. Bran muffins!!! You get 4 grams of fiber per muffin. If it is a jumbo muffin, you get 8 grams!

3. Peas!!! 1/2 cup has 9 grams of fiber.

4. Corn on the cob!!! 5 grams of fiber per ear.

5. Berries!!! A cup of strawberries- 3 grams of fiber. Raspberries have 4 grams per cup.

6.Potatoes!!! 5 grams per medium potato. Serve a jumbo size potatoe for a meal, and you have 10 grams. But, be sure to eat the skin, because that is where the fiber is..

7.Figs!!! 3 dried figs equal 10 1/2 grams of fiber, while 5 dried prunes only have 5 grams of fiber for the same amount of fruit.

8. Broccoli!!! 3/4 of a cup of broccoli has 7 grams of fiber.

9.Oats!!! 7 grams of fiber in 3/4 cup serving.

10.Apples!!! One medium apple has 4 grams of fiber. A small banana has 3 grams.

Mullein & its many uses

Mullein grows like a weed in my neck of the woods. In fact, it is a weed! lol

A while back we decided to harvest a bunch of it. Up until now, I have been buying it in a tea form at our local Whole Foods grocery store. It is rather expensive too, being $6.00 a box. One day,  A friend pointed out to me all the wild Mullein that grew up and down the town rail road tracks. Wow! Free Mullein!   Time was of the essense too she said, because every year they kill it off with pesticides.

We decided it was time to make our own tea, and save lots of $$$.

This is how it starts off.

When it first starts to grow in the Spring

Growing taller

The leaves

Up close, they are furry!

Hanging up to dry

Ugh! They are NOT a bed Shadow!!

De-stemming & De-bugging them!

All crispy & dried from the brown lunch bags

Ready to crush to make tea

All bagged up

Made into tea bags, from coffee filters & stapled.

We added strings through the staples later. These are the two test bags. My friend just boils the dried leaves whole. You do not have to go through all the trouble of  crushing them and making tea bags. My kids just wanted too go through the trouble, because it was fun.

Keep in mind that Mullen has a bitter taste, if you steep it with a Jasmine or peppermint tea, it softens the flavor, but still gives you the amazing healing properties.

You would use this any time you had a cough, were congested, or had a significant amount of phelm build up. This works better then anything we have ever tried, being a natural expectorant.

You want to try to stay away from un-natural sorces of expectorant if at all possible, such as  guaifenesin, or  bromhexine. Especialy if your a child. Both of these have many side effects that the doctors fail to ever mention to you.

A little history of Mullen:

Mullen can be found anywhere in the United States, and other countries, such as, Haiti, India, South America, Spain and Turkey. It occurs along roadsides,  fields and barren areas. Mullein thrives in sunny uncultivated fields, waste ground and on dry soils.

Mullein was used during the Middle Ages as a remedy for skin and lung disease in cattle and humans. By the end of the nineteenth century, mullein was given in Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States to tuberculosis patients.

Mullein is a tall (two to seven feet) fuzzy plant that has yellow flowers growing off of a stalk from March to November. The yellow, unstalked, flowers appear in densely packed spikes, and bloom at random, from spring until fall. The flowers are small, an inch or less across, and cup-shaped, with five petals joined at their base, five stamens, and one pistil. The flowers are fragrant and taste sweet, the leaves however are not fragrant and taste slightly bitter. Through the summer and early fall, the flowers fade, and the fruits appear.

The leaves are a rubefacient, which means that if you rub them against your skin it will become red and irritated. But this characteristic has been exploited by make-up manufacturers. They produce a natural, make-up out of the Mullein. This practice ensured that Mullein acquired another name – Quaker Rouge.

Mullein tea provides vitamins B-2, B-5, B-12, and D, choline, hesperidin, PABA, sulfur, magnesium, mucilage, saponins, and other active substances. The tea is served as a beverage, but it is best known as one of the safest, most effective herbal cough remedies.

Mullein, as states, is an expectorant and a tonic for the lungs, mucus membranes and glands. An infusion is used for for colds, emphysema, asthma, hay fever and whooping cough. Strain the tea through cheesecloth, if you are not placing them in tea bags, or the little hairs can get stuck in your throat and make you cough even more. Laboratory tests have shown that it is anti-inflammatory, with antibiotic activity, and that it inhibitsTB (tuberculosis bacillus.)

Indians smoked dried mullein and coltsfoot cigarettes for bronchitis and asthma. The tea is also an astringent, it’s good for diarrhea, and it’s been used in compresses for hemorrhoids for centuries. The heated leaves have been used in poultices to help other herbs get absorbed through the skin.

So there you have it! Won’t you try this wonderful herb, and please take the time and share a review.

2009 in Review ~ Our Raw food Testimony

2009 in Review ~ Our raw food testimony

2009 was an Amazing year for my family. This is going to be a pretty long post, so I will make it solely about our dietary changes that we have made this past year. I also have a Religious testimony to share, but will save that testimony for the next post.

OK~~~ March of 2009 we decided to change our eating style, when we found out one of our daughters had a gluten intolerance. I started searching online about what exactly that meant. I had already known that artificial flavors and colors attribute to autism and many other disorders, such as hyper tension. As I read page after page, hours on end, I came across something called the raw diet way of eating for optimum health. About 3 days after reading up on what eating a majority of raw foods  meant to the human body. I met a lady online and found out that she only lived in the next town over. She was a (M.O.M) Mother of Many. She invited us over for dinner. We had not mentioned anything to do with food yet. We arrived and she had made a big pot of chili and corn bread. As we all sat down to eat, I noticed she was just eating a salad and I casually mentioned to her if she liked Chili. She said yes, but has been trying to stick with her RAW food diet!!! LOL

My husband and I looked at each other and chuckled. She began to tell us all about what eating 80% raw foods has done to her family. She told me that for the past 8 months she and her family have been raw. She said that her husband was on medications for several things and suffered from (IBS) irritable bowl syndrom, Gurd, and blood preasure issues. She had a few issues herself she said and within a month of eating raw foods, they were cured!! WOW! I was amazed. I then told her about how I was just reading and studying about raw foods that past week. She was surprizingly shocked and then reached for the freezer and brought out a assortmant of raw desserts. Raw flourless brownies, Raw flourless chocolate chip cookies, and even some raw chocolate, which is an amazing super food, when eaten raw!
It was so cool.

I decided to slowly transition my family to a more natural organic whole foods diet. I took the basics first and did away with processed packaged foods that were loaded with preservatives, MSG etc. This meant for  us: no more Kraft Mac & Cheese, no more Coco puffs or fruity pepples. No more hamburger helper, frozen waffles, pancakes, TV dinners, french fries, chicken nuggets, Texas toast or frozen pizzas. No more fast food places, or fried food even! I stopped buying canned soups, convience mixes, chili, taco, pot roast and meatball seasoning packets too.No more bisquick, No more Crystal Light because (Aspartame causes Migrains and cancer) No more soda or concentrated juices. We were never into Kool aid because I had a thing about how some people use Kool Aid to dye fabrics, and if Kool Aid is powerful enough to dye fabrics…what on Gods Green earth is it doing to the inside of my kids bodies??? To me, that is border line child abuse. *G*

Ok, so I would need to spend a bit more time in the kitchen, but wasn’t my kids worth it??  I went online and found out how to make my own bisquick. Next I needed to find out what to do about  Vegtable shortening, so I bought a coconut oil from Walmart and as it was not organic, I replaced vegtable shortening with it. Super healthy. Cconut Oil has so many medicinal properties. I highly encourage you to check into it. Vegtable shortening is a highly prosessed Hydronated oil and wrecks haven on your colen, amoung other things.
Next came the peanut butter. This is a daily stable in our house, and so it was needed. I found at Costcos, they sell a double pack of organic healthy peanut butter that is creamy and soooooo good! It was only a buck more then the Jiff that I was use to buying too! I was not sure my son would go for it. He is the picky one, but sure enough, he welcomed the change. Then the Jelly, I was always buying the All Fruit Polanders. I decided to juice some grapes one day, and throw in some pectin and raw sugar, and make enough grape jelly to last the whole year! DONE! :o)

Bread, I was buying good old Wonder bread and switched  to one called Natures Own. It is the only one with no high frutose corn syrup in it, or MSG. There was something else it did not have in it, but I am drawing a blank. *G*

Next was Meats-I was use to buying frozen meatballs, bagle bites, chicken, hambugeres, fish sticks, mozzerella sticks, and who knows what else.

We ate really unhealthy, and were constantly praying for good health while eating a whole lot of crap. This gave a whole new meaning for praying over our deep fried foods, while asking the Lord to have it bless, and nourish us. Were we honestly thinking that the fried fatty foods would magically convert to spinich in our gut??

The bible says that we parish, for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6

Most of us grow up eating what we, ourselves were raised on. If it was good enough for mom and dad, Well, it will be good enough for us…But, how is your mom and dad? How are our parents health right now? Are they even still with us?

My dad is on 6 different medications right now and my mother is on 4.

How about our grandparents? How did they pass away, if they are no longer with us. What ever happened to dying of old age?

I think it would have to be our Great Grandparents that were probably eating a more whole foods diet. Why? Because they did not have all the boxed foods that they have nowadays. Hmmmmmm.
Anyways, I also started juicing and doing green smoothies which are sooooooo filling! I replaced the poptarts with homemade ones for transition foods for the kids. Then I stopped making the homemade ones, due to the cream cheese and sugar in them. I then started making Vegan muffins for the kids to snack on. We gave up white sugar, which praise the Lord, it has been 8 months since I bought a 5lb bag of white poison, I mean sugar! lol

It was actually during a trip to Costcos that taught us what white sugar does to our bodies. There was a demonstration of a guy using the ever popular Vita-Mix blender. He was making ice cream in less then a minute. He put some raw sugar, strawberries, milk and cabbage into the blender. He said that each time we put white sugar into our bodies, our bodies react to it as if it were bleach, a poison..and started attacking it as such. Yikes! Later when I went home, I researched it on my own and found that what he had said was true.:o(

Then he explained how the cabbage nutralizes suagr in general, so it will not mess with our blood sugar and  that sugar in the Raw does not act as a poison to our bodies. Yes, in large quanities, it will still cause Diabietes, but your body can identify it as a whole food and not a poison.
As far as snacks go, I still buy chips twice a month, but not the Lays,Cheetos or Doritos which are filled with MSG. This is why you can’t have just one and be done! *grin* MSG is a food enhancer, for those who do not know. It enhances the flavor of the food, so you want to overeat and indulge!!! There are some natural MSG found in meats. This is the heavaly processed MSG that I am talking about. I am talking about the powdered stuff that   is added to 99% of our processed foods that we are shoving down our kids throats.

For snacks, we buy organic tortilla chips in bulk at Costcos. I also buy something called Veggie Straws  which everyone just loves.. except me. I have never been a chip person.

As far as dairy goes, we still are eating eggs, but only once a week. They are from our chickens. We only buy Raw cows milk. This is only during the times that our Goat is not giving us raw goats milk. For myself though, I was never one for milk either. I do buy Organic vanilla Soy milk that I use in my baked goods etc..
Oh, getting back to the bread. During the summer months I was making our own bread. Just the simple basic bread recipe on the little packet of yeast. Everyone devoured it!

With the cold weather though, I was finding that I could not get my bread to rise right, so stopped making it until the warmer months.

I have lost 43 pounds this past year.I had lost more nearly 50, but gained it back. My goal was 50 actually. I gained it back when I fell prey to eating out, and over other peoples homes who were not eating the way I eat at my house. I think I may start just brown bagging it. *grin*

This coming year my goal is again, 50lbs. I just bought some new workout dvds today and weight elastics to go with them. I feel very determined and motivated as I type this.
As far as protein goes, and this is the most contriversal topic among carnivores and vegatarains….Let me just say, if you educate yourself, you will come to find out that meat protein is the worst kind of protein you can eat. Meat is what is causing heart diseaes throughout America, and  Despite what the main stream doctors are feeding us. (no pun intended) There is amazing amounts of real protein in so many other natural foods.

Carbs make us feel sluggish, so I am not advocating carbs by no means. You need to callenge yourself and sample a little of this and that, to see what your body reacts too. Wouldn’t it be amazing to feel as you did in your teens. So vibrant and alive! waking up each morning and literetly jumping out of bed, ready to start each new day. Ending each night with still loads of energy to spare. No body aches or pains EVER!  Sleeping for 6-7 hours a night, and sleeping straight through, waking up and feeling as if you slept 12 hours!!
Vitamins–I do take vitamins, because I always have. I do not get outside for more then a few minutes a day, and the sun is barely shining these days.  I take 6000IU’s of D3 each and every day. A couple years back, you never heard of anyone taking D3. But since the sun is the only source out there..and even some main stream doctors such as Dr. Oz are hopping on the band wagon and advocating how good it is for you..It is getting a buzz!

I have tested it, I went several days without my D3, and I felt more run down.
If you have ever been sick in the summer time and went outside in the sun before. That feeling, that lifting up, pick up feeling that the sun gives you when you are out in it. That is what the D3 does for us. We get ours from The bottle says to take one 1000IU a day. If you research it, you will find that for every 25lbs you are. You can take one 1000IU though. If you are feeling sick, a adult can stomach 10 1000IU’s and heal themselves in 3 days flat! It is pretty amazing.

All 7 of us take them each day. I also take Super B. I have been taking it for years and want to continue.

So there you have a basic run down on what my family was eating and where we are right now.
Yes, some days I fail, and make bad choices.  I do not buy any meats anymore, but do buy black bean burgers, a carrot veggie burger, and salmon burgers. We eat one of these burgers once a week. We also treat the kids to frozen pizzas sometimes and did a comparison, and found that the Tombstone frozen pizzas are the most natural. No MSG either!
My fridge is mostly fruits and veggies. I have taken some new pictures of it to share like I did last time. I need to have hubby hook up the camera to the new puter though. I will add them later.

Other things we gave up were, corn syrups, artificial flavored baking extracts, white table salt,Imitation maple pancake syrups, cheeses with food colorings in them, flourinated toothpastes, and comercial toothpastes in general, shampoos and conditioners with Sodiem Laral Sulfate in them, anti-persprints,store bought hand soaps and lotions, air freshners, all candles, except the beeswax and Soy based ones, store bought laundry soap, bath soap detergents, mouth washes(they contain aspertame) and pretty much anything un natural that you would place on your skin that would get into your blood stream.

Now I know that there are some folks who are actually allergic to raw foods! Wow! when I studied up on this, it sounded crazy. But there are some people who break out and puff up like a blow fish when they eat, or touch certain raw foods. This is called, Oral Allergy Syndrome, and YES, it also can be cured!! If you find that you would like to eat more raw foods, but simply feel as if your hands are tied, I would encourage you to Google up on oral allergy syndrome. There is a cure!  Sometimes it is just because you have a leaky gut. Having a damaged intestinal lining allows molecules that don’t belong into your system, where they  mimic allergies. It is something to look into. From what I have read, people who suffer from OAS, also suffer from  birch, grass and ragweed pollen in the Spring and Summer months.  You can read more about Vegan food allergies here.

I am sure I am leaving out some stuff, but there has been so many positive changes, I can not possibly remember them all!

Until next time…..

Church, H1N1, and Living foods!

Good Afternoon everyone! I feel Inspired! Things have never been bad per-say, but since doing some major life changes this past year, I just can not stop smiling.

I use to read other ladies blogs and read how happy and good they always seemed to feel, or so they claimed. Secretly, I always left thinking that they were lying. I don’t know why. Just did.

I am walking around 50 lbs lighter, which feels Amazing! I have also been set free from Religious Bondage! Always trying to EARN gods love! This has been such an amazing year for me and my family. I feel such a connection with Christ, like never before. I feel like Church had done so much damage to me, even though I did not get saved until age 23..It feels amazing to throw religion out the door and focus solely on Christ now. I am finding many people know “about” Christ, but really have no relationship with him what-so-ever.

They are so busy at church, serving and keep the church functioning, which leaves little, to no time, for a relationship with the King!  If any of you watched any of the little video church clips that I posted a while ago, you will see what I mean. The church is a system, much like the movie The Matrix..Most folks feel that the church is who they are. Their identity. They are lost without punching the clock, sorta speak. This should speak volumes!

That all said….

I woke up today craving a GREEN smoothie! I have read that the more “alive” foods you place into your body, the more you will crave, and feel ALIVE! Well, this seems to be true. I am still so amazed at my little old 1972 dollar vintage blender that is breaking down the greens much like a five hundred dollar Vita Mix  does. Sure, it takes more then 30 seconds, but in less then 5 mins, I have a perfect Green smoothie that is full of living enzymes and energy! My husband, who has never cared for greens, says they are good too. This speaks volumes to me. The key is, the sweet and thick fruits that you add to it. This totally masks the strong green flavor, and even the kids are drinking up.

My son was around some other kids last week and came down with what we thought was the H1N1. He was fine one minute, and had a fever, vomiting with diarrhea the next minute. Well, that was the flu symptoms I was told, and I was also told it would last at least 1 full week. BUT, no need to fear when a mom has a power smoothie to share!!

He had no appetite, thank goodness..y’all know how fun vomit is to clean up on a full tummy! LOL

Anyway, I gave him some aloe to sip that night, elderberry in the morning, and some sips of greens..This nipped it in the bud in less then 24 hours flat!!! He was running and playing the very next day!

Another testimony was a sudden ear infection my little one had. In the past, I ran to the doctors, with a screaming waiting child. Feeling ever so helpless. They would just tell me to give her pain killers, and put her on a 14 day antibiotic. Then 14 days later, baby is fine for a couple days and BANG! The ear infection would come back, and we would have to go back to the Quack, I mean doctor, and go through the whole thing over once more, this time with a stronger 14 day antibiotic!! Ugh!

Keep in mind my youngest has been the healthiest. This was actually the first time she has ever had an ear infection. I just felt like the best mommy around, having been able to ease her pain ASAP and CURE it too!

How did I cure it? I put 3 drops of pure olive oil in her ear 3x that day. The pain immediately stopped as soon as the olive oil hit the ear canal..and the very next day..the infection was gone! She was fine. I put 3 more drops in that one ear, just in case..but she was back to her old self again. WOW! The pharmacy sells this ear stuff in the baby section called, “sweet oil” If you look at the ingredients, it is 100% olive oil. Hmmmm..WHat a no brainer, when you keep olive oil in the house all the time anyways.

The Lord is Amazing at providing natural home remedies for  illnesses. All we need to do is educate ourselves. This is the Key!!
The Doctors are not God! Most, if not all, are not on your side either! They are only taught to treat your symptoms in Medical school. They are never taught how to cure them. They are there to make a buck, that is it! They are there to support the pharmecuitcals. If you follow the money train, you will always fall right back to the Pharmecuticals…They are most likely the ones that let out the virus in Mexico for the H1N1 in the first place..Don’t be fooled into thinking otherwise folks!!

My yummy smoothies!

The Truth About Energy

I just read the most amazing article about energy and had to pass it on. I was reading up on a sea salt flush that I am getting ready to start and stumbled across this blog. It all makes so much sense and I hope it can also help out other drained out and weary moms out there.

Energy: The Simple Truth

Energy is a hot topic in our culture, and for many it is the ultimate currency. Just as all the misleading dietary information is confusing people, so is all the erroneous information about energy. I think it’s high time to set the record straight about energy. Fortunately, like all great truths, it’s really very simple.

There is only one thing to know about energy. Energy is a current of electromagnetic force of dual polarity (-)/(+). In the physical body it is at its greatest potential when the body’s cells are clean and clear. You are ENERGIZED when you have open pathways (no mucoid matter in the bloodstream, lungs, or throat and no waste matter stuck in the intestines or intestinal walls) and when the energy can move freely between the cells and tissues. I like to imagine cells conducting energy by “kissing” each other with electricity. Energy can only reach the cells and conduct if there are no blockages.

Let’s be absolutely clear: You do not become energized by consuming calorie-dense substances. Instead, you become energized by removing blockages between cells and within pathways so that the electromagnetic current can travel like a lightening rod through the body. If you are feeling weak or lacking power for your workouts when you eat this way, it is ALWAYS due to one or more of the following three reasons:

1) You have awakened matter that your bowel cannot release on its own. Therefore, your center is blocked and the awakened poisons have been released into your bloodstream, making you feel ill and tired. You need either bowel cleansing or a less than perfect meal to give your bowel a break from the transition to clean foods—one or the other, but preferably the former.

2) You are so addicted to the stimulation of cooked proteins, whey or soy protein workout products, coffee, refined sugar, flour, soda, etc. that your body is not coping with the change. The problem is that you’re having withdrawal symptoms—not that the clean diet is failing to deliver energy. You probably need to transition more slowly. People are often deceived into thinking they need meat when, after a week of a meat-free diet, they go out and eat a steak and suddenly feel “energized.” This is a FALSE FIRE!

The wave of false fire is not real energy. It is just the stimulation of the acidic animal protein that an addicted body responds to. Additionally, when the animal is killed, the “fight or flight” hormone—adrenaline—surges through the bloodstream of the frightened animal. That adrenaline is in the meat when consumed, and is often confused with a feeing of energy—again, FALSE FIRE! Acidic, dense substances—whether animal flesh, dense nut/seed bars, protein bars, or yogurt and granola—can never give you real energy, only stimulation. To an unclean body addicted to the stimulation, continuing to consume such substances feels good and familiar. Stopping too suddenly leads to withdrawal symptoms and a feeling of weakness. Hence, people often associate a clean diet with feeling weak. This is why making a gradual TRANSITION away from the old foods, rather than going cold turkey, is so crucial. It will help you avoid many pitfalls!

3) You are mentally programmed to believe that only consuming calorie-dense substances can sufficiently energize you for a workout. The fact is, eating muesli, granola, a power bar, or a shake before a workout can actually physically drain energy from you. But mental programming is a powerful thing; for years you’ve been absorbing the erroneous propaganda that you need these substances for energy. So now it’s a case of mind over matter: work to reverse your thinking and align with the greater truth.

Most of all, keep an eye on the big picture of cleansing. A clear body is an energized body.

Have you ever Oil Pulled?

Have you ever Oil Pulled?

Ok, so this past week I have been studying Oil Pulling and feel comfortable enough to start trying it at home. Some of you may not know what Oil pulling is….Let me share it with you.:o)

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic technique that’s becoming very popular for dental and gum health. All mouth-related problems will benefit from this simple procedure known as “oil pulling”.

What you need to get started:

1.Unrefined, cold-pressed sesame oil or sunflower oil

2.Unscented pure vegetable oil soap (without added glycerin) like Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap (peppermint is good) or a pure olive oil bar soap known as “Tooth Soap”.

First thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, take 1 tablespoon of oil in the mouth, and swish and pull it through the teeth gently, not vigorously, for 10 minutes. It will turn white when it is time to spit it out. Remember to spit it in the trash or toilet..It will be filled with yucky toxins, so don’t spit it in your sink. You also don’t want oil down your drain!! It will turn white, much the way peroxide does in your mouth. Some folks do this daily and find themselves feeling completly rejunivated afterwards….It can’t and won’t hurt you in any you can do this daily..or after getting dental work done, or if you have any cold sores, strep, etc.

Ok, so you now have spit the yucky germ filled oil out of your mouth…Now you need to clean your teeth. If you do not feel comfortable using a olive oil based SOAP-then use a baking soda tooth paste or homemade tooth powder will be fine. Don’t freak out at the thought of swiping your tooth brush on a bar of soap..because it will not foam and lather up nearly as much as your comercial tooth paste does!!!

Some folks say that they are asked if they are wearing tooth veneers, because after a couple weeks their teeth get so white! What a bonus!! I’ll let you know if my teeth get whiter! :o)
