Halloween is over, now back to Unity & Peace once more…It really saddend my heart having seen so much division on Face-book over this Holiday amoung the brethren….A Holiday that represents its roots in Paganism, However many other Holidays do too. Why waste so much time and energy bashing others? Who was that edifing? Christ?
And given that none of us is ‘really’ consistent with banning ALL Holidays, how hypocritical to make so much hype towards one, and not all the others? And while so many folks spent so much time quoting the book of Deuternomy….they overlook James 2:10 entirely!
For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws. James 2:10
There is non rightous, no not one…Romans 3:10
You are never going to keep all of Gods laws. And if you are picking and choosing which ones to stand firm on and which ones do are not conveient for you to keep..YOU are guilty of ALL!! Praise the Lord for his Mercy & Grace! Because Jesus already knew that we would never make the mark…which is why we drop to our knees daily and call upon him to began with. AMEN!
It really is silly to try to ‘Act the part’ with one group of friends, and not the other. It is silly to boycott the Holidays & trimmings at home, yet not in the workforce. Didn’t Jesus say, Have our yes be yes, and our no be no? Matthew 5:37
I understand that we are ALL imperfect and fall short every single day. I fail daily, but get right back up again…Amen! THIS is who we are on this side of heaven! It’s not our place to dictate our personal convictions on others, or make them feel ‘less then’ for not sharing our ‘personal convictions’.
I have had a couple friends ask me why I’m so passionate about this, when I myself, do not take my kids Trick or Treating/Trunk or Treating? Why am I fighting or so it seems, to them…..(I am fighting for Unity,Peace and Love amoung the body of Christ.) I am hopeful that once we realize how pointless our bitter words are amoung one another, and unglorifing they are to everyone around us…Only then, can we bring TRUE wholesome Glory to Christ! Amen!
It is a matter of condemnation. NOT compromise, which is how many churches have indoctrined us to believe. Messiah works through us through the Holy Spirit, therefore, it is not anyone’s place to STEAL Gods Glory away from him. It is NOT my place to tell another, that they are partaking in ‘Satan’s Day’ by taking their kids Trick or Treating. In fact the whole concept of calling it ‘Satan’s Day’ is quite humorous, frankly. I mean, isn’t every day the Lords Day among the body? How many days do evil things happen (CLUE: Every single day!) and we are not giving them all titles. It’s truly ridiculous. Something I never fully comprehended until recently.
There are Christians who partake in Christmas, but not Halloween..when is ‘reality’ Christmas really isn’t about Christ at all..At least not the 25th Christmas, that we all celebrate and go crazy over. Like Halloween, It is a useless battle…. So much division that our ‘American Christmas’ brings us all. *sigh*
We have the non-believers who have been thriving for the ‘Happy Holidays’ phrase, and we have the Believers fighting for the ‘Merry CHRIST-mas’ phrase…When in real, actual, reality…..Does Jesus really care which phrase is being used? NO WAY!! What probably saddens him most, is the LACK of unity and division that these ‘American Holidays’ brings to the brethren. Satan loves this! In fact the more we battle against one another…Who is the one getting the Glory! ^^
When is it going to stop? :o( I know, it probably won’t!
I for one do not plan on boycotting stores that use the ‘Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings’ phrase, anymore then I would boycott the stores that stand firm on saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to their customers. Anymore then I would Boycott a store due to the owner being a homosexual.
After Christmas we will have Valentines Day to look forward to, and then Easter…And all the self righteous hypocrisy that comes along with those Holidays…..Who is giving their kids hearts with cupid on the boxes and passing out cards…Then Easter with the bunny and coloring of eggs, verses the Religious aspect of it…
I could go on and mention how anal Christian alternatives are, and how confusing they are for your kids, but this post is more about letting your Yes be Yes, and your No be No…. If I am partaking in a trunk or treat church event with my kids, then i might as well take them trick or treating the ‘old fashion way’. If I’m letting them dress up as ‘fictional characters’ then I might as well let them dress up anyway they choose, which would include a scary ‘make believe’ costume. Doing otherwise, is teaching them that there are more ‘forbidden fruits’ in this world then not. It also teaches them how to be a modern day Pharisee. But that is not the point…Or is it?
Sorry, couldn’t resist!! Lets try this again…
What is everyone doing for Easter? My Dh’s family do their own thing each year. My mother lives in a different state and always goes out to dinner each Easter, and my father works every Easter, as well as lives in a different state. Soooo–That just leaves us, so I generally invite people over for dinner each year, which is what is on the agenda for this year too. Lots of cooking and baking!!!
We are also taking the kids to a flash light egg hunt at church tomorrow evening which should be fun.
I am a bit upset to see 2010 almost over. Not that it has been as good a year as others… but the way 2010 sounds and the way it looks.. There is order to it that I like, and for that, I am upset to see it go! *G* :o/
Will I be making any New Years Resolutions? Probably. I don’t really call them resolutions, more of goals.
I started thinking tonight of all the previous New Years Eves that I have celebrated. As a kid they were pretty much lined up with everyone elses..Watching the New York City Ball , and staying up till midnight. Now that I am an adult, my family has NYE parties each year.
When I turned 13, things started getting more exciting. I was not too impressed with staying home watching the ball anymore, so while my mother was at a NYE party, my brother and a bunch of his friends came over and asked me if I wanted to take a ride to the air port to watch all the planes land. I thought my mom was going to be out late, but to my surprise she came home early that night and noticed I was missing and called the police. I got home at 5am, and walked into a huge mess! I will leave out all the horrid details..but it was one of the most memorable New Years Eves that I have. lol
—And if one of my own kids would ever pull something like that, I would have handled it the same way as my mom did! *fainting*
Dh just sent me this youtube video and it was sooooo funny I had to watch it 3x. Of course maybe I am just weird, but I would have gladly taken a new vacuum with dual bag! Ha!
And off note, but Christmas gift related–My dad just called me in utter shock! But in a funny way! You see, I mailed him his Christmas gift the other day and poured a full cup of sesame seeds in the wrapping paper…so when he unwrapped it…Well, it would be quite the mess to clean up! The only problem he said was, that he was in a company car when he unwrapped it and had to take it to be vacummed afterwards.. due to the mess!!! lol
I have been sending him a bottle of sesame seeds for years and years now. However they are generally in their container, and not emptied out with his Christmas gift! And he hates sesame seeds…Which is why I always feel the need to send them.<:o)~
Well, Thanksgiving is coming to an end. This was the first Thanksgiving that I spent NOT cooking. Hubby took most the kids over to his side of the family for dinner. I wanted to stay home and relax, so was very thankful that I was able to clean the whole house while they were gone. Yes, cleaning is very tranquil for me.
Hubby came home super stressed out. So happy that I stayed home.*G* He did bring home a bunch of dinner, so I didn’t get cheated. Just minis the stress. :o)~
I will be cooking our dinner this Saturday.
I also peeled 200 clemintines, and found it neat that I was able to fit 50 peeled clemintines in a 1 gallon ziplock bag. All I have left for tomorrow is one last case of Poms. I think I am going to do a juice fast with Poms tomorrow to use some up.
All in all, it was a very good Thanksgiving, and even had a friend stop by and visit! Can’t ask for more then that! I am so blessed!
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Hebrews 13:15
Well, the kids pressured me to put the tree up early again this year. I suppose it wasn’t too much pressure as I never saw the point to wait till December 1rst to put it up, or worst, Christmas Eve like some folks do. If I was able to leave it up till January, then maybe…BUT, like the many other things that affect my OCD, Holiday decorations is pretty up there…I am the type that takes all the Christmas stuff down the day after Christmas. Drives everyone batty! lol
So the House is done in a Fall/Christmas theme right now. I did make progress this year though regarding the tree. I allowed the kids to decorate it any way they saw fit. I put away my two tone matching bows, ribbons and bulbs and just closed my eyes and hoped for the best! :o)~ I got to lift my little girl up and place the angel on top too, which was the highlight of it all.
I will have to snap and upload a picture of it to add later…
And on that note..I am totally into this Christmas tree light up game even though I can not seem to finish it. I think my eyes need to stay off the timer, maybe that would reduce the stress of the game for me…Ugh!
A traditional New England Thanksgiving dinner is shown above~~~Of course I am anything but traditional, which is why I am not going to be using this menu plan.
It is that time again. Thanksgiving! We will be doing our Thanksgiving on mine & my daughters birthday this year. We do this every other year.:o)
What is on the menu? Pretty standard. I think.
Almond-brown sugar brie w/water crackers
Turkey of Course, and REAL Turkey this year too! Last year I tried to convince my family that the Tofurkey was really uncanny! *G*
Mash Potatos & Gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Sweet Potato Casserole
Castle Cake & Ice Cream
Homemade raw Egg-Nog
The only thing that is missing from the standard American Thanksgiving. Well, at least the ones I had growing up in New England, are Pearled Onions..which I was always forced to eat as a kid, and wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy. Stuffing, which no one can make better then my grandmother, but I am also the only one who likes it in my family. My grandma would put apples, rasins, and walnuts in it! YUM! Turnips, again, I am the only one who likes them, so we do not make them. Yams, which I really would make, but since I am making the Sweet potato casserole, they are pretty much the same.
I might also add that I have never heard of sweet potato casserole until we moved down here. I had no idea what I was missing!!! *fainting* Carrot Raisin salad-I make this every other year.
I also have never heard of a pumpkin roll until I moved down here, and I think it is super funny that every time someone has a piece, they tell me that obviously it is something that I have been making for years and years, because it is the best they ever tasted. :o)~
So what does everyone elses menu look like this year?
Some of the recipes I use-
Green Bean Casserole
2 cartons of organic condensed cream of mushroom soup
8 cups cooked green beans
1 teaspoon pepper
dash of sea salt
2 cup milk
2 cups French fried onions
Mix soup, milk and pepper in casserole dish. Stir in beans and 1 cup of the fried onions. Bake for about 25 minutes at 350 degrees.. Top with the remaining fried onions and bake about 5 more minutes, until onions are lightly browned.
24 oz bag fresh cranberries
2 cups orange juice
1 cup brown sugar
capful of rum extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Place all the ingredients in a sauce pan and cook on medium heat for 20-30 minutes or until most of the liquid has reduced – stirring occasional. You’ll hear the cranberries popping – don’t worry, that’s what you want them to do.,, Remove from heat and serve. Cranberry sauce/relish can be made days ahead and brought to room temperature or slightly heated before serving.
Raw Homemade Eggnog
4 large farm-fresh eggs, *room temperature* Otherwise they won’t fluff up.
1 cup raw sugar
2 tsp real vanilla extract
1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
4 cups raw milk
2 capfuls of Rum extract
In your blender…. whisk together eggs and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add vanilla, nutmeg and milk.
I use my Blendtec, but I believe any blender would work. You want to blend it until you get that thick milky custard consistency. If you like it thicker, you can add a 1/2 packet of jello vanilla pudding mix. Lastly, stir in rum extract.
Brie w/Almonds & brown Sugar
What is more comforting then creamy melted cheese.. mixed with a sauce made with slivered almonds & brown sugar. I make my own brown sugar, because I like lots of molasses in it. I unwrap a big wheel of Brie, top it with a generous amount of brown sugar, then with crushed/slivered almonds, or any nut of your choice. I first had this back home at a friends Christmas Party. That was eight years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. Some people put apricot preserves instead of the brown sugar, or maybe drizzled honey.Whatever you like!
Heat in a preheated 350′ oven until melted. Then spread on crackers. This is very addicting and you can bet, if you eat enough, you will gain weight! *G*
